What We Believe

Mission Statement

To love the Lord our God with all our hearts and all our souls, and all of our minds and to love our neighbors as ourselves. (Matthew 22:38-39)

Mission Statement Expanded

We strive to serve Jesus Christ and to love Him with all our hearts. We try to honor Christ’s example of selfless service by showing Christ’s love to others through selfless service. We seek to meet others needs in all formats —physically, emotionally, spiritually, etc. We especially seek to lead others into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Our Major Beliefs

Article I (The Bible is God’s word and it is true.)

WE BELIEVE God’s word (the Bible) is true and applies to today’s world. We believe the Old and New Testaments were given by divine inspiration, are the Word of God, the final and supreme authority in all matters of faith.

Article II (One God called the Trinity)

WE BELIEVE in one God, who is eternal, all-powerful, and absolutely Holy; He has revealed Himself to mankind as existing in three distinguishable expressions of His essential being: The Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Article III (God reveals Himself to us through the Bible.)

WE BELIEVE that in the Bible God reveals Himself as the living and true God, Creator of all things. Perfect in love and righteous in all His ways, this one God exists eternally as a Trinity of persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Article IV (We are created for relationship with God but we damaged this perfect relationship.)

WE BELIEVE that God made man and woman in His image that He might have fellowship with us. We believe humans are naturally estranged from God by our disobedience, we are a sinful people, incapable of a right relationship to God apart from divine grace.

Article V (We are personally responsible for our own sin)

WE BELIEVE that all people sin by committing willful acts against the known desire of God. They are therefore responsible for their own actions.

Article VI (Result of sin)

WE BELIEVE that no person can go to heaven or have an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ aside from the confession and forgiveness of sins.

Article VII (No one can come to God except through Jesus Christ.)

WE BELIEVE that Jesus Christ is the bridge between God and all human beings. Jesus is God’s eternal Son who chose to dwell among us for a time as a man and fully shared and fulfilled our humanity in a life of perfect obedience. We believe a relationship with Jesus Christ is the only way to a relationship with God.

Article VIII (Jesus Christ chose to come to us in human form.)

WE BELIEVE that Jesus Christ was born of the virgin, Mary, and that He is and was perfect and without sin. We further believe that when Jesus Christ came to earth He was both entirely man and entirely God.

Article IX (Jesus Christ literally died and rose again.)

WE BELIEVE that by dying in our place, Jesus Christ revealed the divine love and upheld divine justice, removing our guilt and reconciling us to God. We believe Jesus rose bodily from the dead and ascended into heaven, He rules as Lord over all and intercedes for us as our Great High Priest.

Article X (God loves us and wants relationship with us.)

WE BELIEVE God loves each person exactly as they are, but that He also loves every person too much to leave us the way we are.

WE BELIEVE that God desperately wants a personal relationship with people and that every person desperately needs a deep, personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Article XI (A right relationship with God is an option given to each of us.)

WE BELIEVE each individual must choose to repent of our sins and confess Jesus as Lord in order to have an eternal relationship with God. When we do confess our sins to Jesus Christ and choose to follow Him, we are forgiven of all sin, justified by faith through the merit of Christ our Savior, and adopted into God’s family as His children.

WE BELIEVE that though the Holy Spirit leads us to God, He gives us the final authority to accept or reject a relationship with God. A right relationship with God is an option given to each of us, but we must personally choose to accept this gift.

Article XII (The Holy Spirit gives gifts of service to Christians.)

WE BELIEVE that the Holy Spirit gifts Christians for service to God by granting special spiritual gifting as described in the Bible (miracles still happen). Gifts of the Spirit are God’s supernatural touch on our lives that allows us to serve Him best. Some gifts of the Spirit include the message of wisdom, the message of knowledge, faith, healing, miraculous powers, prophecy, distinguishing between spirits, speaking in different kinds of tongues, and interpretation of tongues.

WE BELIEVE spiritual gifting is to be used wisely—never for self glory—and always in a way that glorifies God. We try to be especially sensitive to others and we make great efforts to remain united with others who may or may not be comfortable with various gifts. This means we are cautious in public services to avoid needlessly offending others. Gifts are used to glorify Christ—not to divide the church or God’s kingdom.

Article XIII (Communion and Baptism)

WE BELIEVE in the sacraments of baptism and communion. We believe each is meant as an outward symbolic sign of an inward change. We believe we are commanded as Christians to participate in both. We believe babies are to be dedicated to Christ as Jesus was in the temple. If a parent desires to use baptism for a baby this may be used as a form of dedication, but this is not to be confused with the child’s need to personally accept Jesus Christ and to later publically announce this. NOTE: We believe all children are saved until they are old enough to willfully choose to accept or reject Jesus Christ.

Article XIV (The Apostles Creed and Nicene Creed are true.)

WE BELIEVE and affirm the historic creeds of the church that attempt to describe the major teaching of God’s word “the Bible.” This means we affirm the “Apostles Creed” and the “Nicene Creed.” We believe the Orthodox views of Christianity and strongly believe we are one of many Christian churches who unite around the major beliefs of Christianity. We are non-denominational, but we are not exclusionary and strongly believe that Christians are not defined by the name of the church they attend, but by their personal relationships with Jesus Christ. We strongly affirm other Christian churches who agree on the major beliefs of Christians everywhere.

Article XV (Jesus is coming again.)

WE BELIEVE God’s redemptive purpose will be perfected by the return of Christ to raise the dead, judge all people, and establish His glorious kingdom. Those who are apart from Christ shall be eternally separated from God’s presence, but the redeemed shall live and reign with Him forever. We do not believe scripture is clear on the exact details of the future and we take only the major stand that Christ will return. He is coming for those who are His and to stop evil forever. Following Jesus’ return a final day of judgment will occur. Those who are found to not be Christians will serve an eternal sentence of damnation in a literal hell while those who are found to be Christians will inherit eternal life in a literal heaven.

Article XVI (The Bible is complete and portions cannot be removed, added to, or changed.)

WE BELIEVE God’s word (the Bible) was completed with the canonization of the book of Revelation. No scripture may be added to or removed. We do not endorse a specific translation of the Bible.

Article XIV (Scripture applies to current issues.)

WE BELIEVE in the authority of scripture in all matters of life including current issues in our society. We do not believe the Bible endorses a specific form of government, political party, etc. We do believe the Bible speaks to many current social issues.

*WE BELIEVE the Bible affirms God’s final authority in terms of the sanctity of human life. We are not given the authority to decide to take the life of another, including the unborn or those suffering. We are expected to protect life. In rare instances protecting life can involve taking live(s) such as when a police officer is placed in a position to protect the public from an immediate danger, at moments when many must be protected from evil during a “just war,” or when the Biblical terms of protecting society is met. Since life is not in our final power, we do affirm that we are not required to fight God’s clear and obvious plan when a person is dying by using extraordinary measures that will not change the clear and final outcome.

*WE BELIEVE that God created men and women for one another and we affirm the sanctity of marriage. We specifically believe in God’s clear affirmation that no sexual deviance from God’s plan is permissible. We recognize that many choose to step out of God’s perfect plan regarding God’s call of sexual purity and this is sin. We affirm God’s deep desire to grant forgiveness for such sin when it is sought and God’s command to love “all” people even if they are outside of God’s plan. Loving another does not mean agreeing with them, or condoning their choices, etc. Because God’s plan on the relationship between man and woman is clear, we consider the practice of homosexuality to be sin as are all sexual acts outside of the marriage between a man and woman.

*WE BELIEVE that God created the world and placed human beings over it to take care of God’s creation. God placed people on earth to “work the garden.” This is not meant as a license to damage God’s garden (this earth). This means as Christians we have a special responsibility to honor God’s garden and to take special care of it as a cherished gift. We are to take care of the earth, maintain it, and use it for God’s glory! Selfish personal desires are not to replace good stewardship of God’s creation. God’s intention was for us to manage His garden well.

*WE BELIEVE that God’s word teaches us that the church is to meet every need possible for others. Jesus constantly demonstrated great care for physical needs. The church is commanded to take the message of salvation to the world, but we are also commanded to meet all the needs of the world including physical needs, social needs, psychological needs, emotional needs, etc.

*WE BELIEVE that God’s word teaches that we are to use all of our resources for God including our physical bodies. Taking good care of God’s resources allows us to use them for His glory better. It is the responsibility of a Christian to attempt to keep the assets they have available and in good condition for service to God and others. For this reason we believe Christians should consider their own bodies as an asset for God’s use. We encourage habits that maintain our physical bodies including good eating habits, exercise, and avoiding any substance that damages our ability to use our bodies for God. If we are damaging what God gave us to use for Him, we need to consider how to make better choices. We choose not to specify the exact implications of this concept as it must be applied to life and examples tend to limit the application and lead to legalism. We do not take a specific stand on many items, but strongly encourage good care of our bodies, moderation, and strongly believe any addictions stand between us and our best commitment to God.

*WE BELIEVE God’s word teaches that God intends to use both men and women for His service. We use both in all situations without hesitation.
